MLS W.O.R.K.S. and Nothing But Nets teamed up to raise awareness about malaria prevention as part of the 2009 All-Star festivities in Salt Lake City. Mozzie the Mosquito and local RSL players, Robbie Russell and Jean Alexandre participated in a malaria awareness clinic with 50 local children. Kids practiced their soccer skills and learned how bed nets can protect children in Africa from this deadly disease.

On day two, MLS W.O.R.K.S. hosted an All-Star Party in downtown Park City to benefit the Nothing But Nets campaign. MLS players, executives and fans joined together to raise money to send life-saving nets to Africa.

MLS W.O.R.K.S. would like to thank everyone throughout the League who supported World Malaria Day -- specifically the fans in Chicago, LA, D.C. and Seattle who participated in the Team Challenge - your donations helped to raise over $28,000!!

Congratulations to the Seattle Sounders FC...the winners of the 2009 World Malaria Day Team Challenge!

MLS W.O.R.K.S. is extremely proud to partner with the United Nations Foundation's Nothing But Nets campaign. Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria. Every year 350-500 million people are infected with malaria, and over one million of those infected die from the disease most of whom are children. In Africa, a child dies every 30 seconds from malaria. Long lasting insecticide-treated bed nets (LLINs) can lower malaria transmission by up to 90 percent. A donation of $10 to Nothing But Nets covers the cost of purchasing a bed net, distributing it and educating communities on its use.

Thank you for supporting MLS W.O.R.K.S. and the Nothing But Nets campaign. The solution is easy...SEND A NET, SAVE A LIFE!
