Ricketts returns

Yo, yo, yo, what's popping? I am back!!! Sorry for my absence. Thank you for all of the enquiries from those of you who were wondering why I had stopped posting the ROLLIN' WITH RICKETTS blog. I really appreciate that you all look forward to reading my material. So I am back to give you what you have been asking for....THE UNHEARD THOUGHTS OF ROHAN RICKETTS!!!

The last few weeks have been really interesting with lots happening, from games to hospital visits. Fortunately for me and my teammates, we got the chance to visit some of the patients in SICK KIDS HOSPITAL. It was an experience that I was grateful to be involved in. To be a guest at the hospital and have the chance to make some of the children smile brighter than me is priceless!!! When you look at some of those children in the hospital it makes you put life in perspective. It makes you realize that these kids are some of the bravest people in our society. It also made me reinstate my belief that as a professional athlete, I am lucky enough to do what many people dream about.

Away from the community work and back to the main job….the soccer and the pursuit of the MLS playoffs. It seems as though it's going down to the wire. In the past couple of weeks a lot of people, mainly in the media, have written us off as far as the playoffs are concerned. Yet our coach has kept the fire burning within us. We have no divine right to still be in with a chance, but because of our collective team spirit and hard work during practice and on the field, we have given ourselves a few lifelines.

I know that the coach and his staff doing their upmost, along with all you fans. It's just down to us to make it happen. The tie on the weekend versus FC DALLAS was probably the biggest and most crucial game of the season thus far, apart from the final game against MONTREAL in the Canadian Championship. We thought we had come away with the win until the referee gave that penalty in the last minute.

I know the result gave the staff and players a sleepless night. If we had won that game our destiny would have been in our hands. The one positive from the game is that we showed we can go away from home with everything against us and come away with a good result. Anyway, lets get off that topic because I'm sure it's just gonna frustrate people more and more.

Turning the attention towards freestyle soccer, I wanna send a special shout out to JD from the RED BULL marketing team!!!! This guy along with STEVE ELIAS aka ELI FREEZE, the NORTH AMERICA FREESTYLE SOCCER CHAMPION, made it possible for me to be a SPECIAL GUEST judge at the TORONTO Red Bull FreeStyle Soccer finals, and then I was invited back to be one of 3 judges for the CANADIAN freestyle soccer final. This was an honor for me!!! Not just to be a judge but also to witness at close quarters, some of the most gifted humans with a soccer ball in CANADA.

These dudes have got mad crazy skills....I can't lie I was slightly envious….lol.....thinking.....DAMN, I wish that was me out there bussing out those show stopping tricks!! But then I reminded myself that you can't have everything in life….or maybe you can....mmmmmmmmmmm.....nah who am I kidding.

I'll just be a fan of them and then hope they are a fan of me, and call it a truce. It's making me jealous just writing about them!!! Anyway, make sure you come to watch the last home game of the league season. It's gonna be a great game for any sports fan. It's a must win game and we are gonna fight tooth and nail to get the win!!! Believe that.

Till next time take care, and remember to enjoy what you have rather than moan about what you don't have!!! IT'S NOT ME, IT'S MY SHOES!! ONE LUV X

Babies, books and wristbands

Yo, yo, yo! What's popping our great fans? Sorry there was no exclusive blog out for last week. I had been having a bad week due to the fact that we were not getting any positive results. This really gets to me as player, because my will to win is beyond extreme.

Where do I start? It seems like it's been so long since I last shared my thoughts with you guys. First off I wanna congratulate my team mate GREG SUTTON on the birth of his first child, a little girl named Maya. I wanna thank all you fans AGAIN (I must sound like a scratched record) for the support you have given us and the coach in this sticky period of our season.

Words can't express how I feel when we lose a game and you guys are still cheering for us. This was most evident in the last game against CHIVAS USA. You guys never stopped singing and shouting. I was really angry after the game as I thought that we could have won the game or at least got a draw, even with all the international players we had missing. To the credit of the team the manager had to put out, we started like a house on fire. We then scored and should have stretched our lead if not for our lack of clinical finishing. One thing which was very evident was our desire to attack. This is fueled by the motivational skills and man management of JOHN CARVER.

Fortunately for us the two teams in front of us for a play off spot also lost their games. I still remain optimistic that we can achieve our goal of getting into the play offs. I am determined to pull this off, largely for the supporters. You guys deserve some GLORY, along with our off the field staff.

Just in case anyone was wondering what I have been getting up to in my spare time off the field, I have started reading books. I've been reading some really interesting books like, 48 LAWS OF POWER, ART OF SEDUCTION, BLINK, THE POWER OF NOW and 50 cent's BIO called 50X50. I like to gain knowledge and stimulate my mind. Go and get these books and let me know what you think!

Before I close this blog I would like to let you know that my charity wristbands will be on sale at GATE 1 at BMO Field on the RIGHT TO PLAY CHARITY STAND before the COLUMBUS CREW game this Saturday.

Anyway until next time, IT'S ME NOT THE SHOES ......OOOOOOPPPPS I mean IT'S NOT ME IT'S THE FANS......oh no that's wrong as well. What is it again?? Oh yeah....IT'S NOT ME IT'S MY SHOES!!! THAT'S IT. HOW COULD I FORGET? TAKE CARE MY HOMIES XX

Big week

Yo, yo, yo! What's popping our loyal Toronto FC fans? This week has been full of different of emotions and experiences for myself. It's been very interesting. It all started last week, when I got to experience my first TEAM CANADA match vs. JAMAICA. As most of you know I also have my own ROLLIN' WITH RICKETTS show on Toronto FC TV. It was recommended that I attended the game for the show and interview a few of the Canadian supporters.

Prior to arriving at the stadium, I had been given a jacket from Roots. It had been customized for the event of CANADA vs. JAMAICA. On the sleeve were two flags, one of CANADA and the other representing JAMAICA. The only problem was that the predominant colors in the jacket were reflecting the Jamaican flag!

My alliances to these flags are like this. My parents are born in JAMAICA and my culture is Jamaican. On the other hand, I see CANADA as my second, if not first home. So I thought I would just sit on the fence for this game. As me and the GENIUS producer for Toronto FC TV (CLAUDIO CASTRO) pulled up to the game, we got a heads up that there was gonna be mass of Canadian fans marching to the stadium. So as I was there shooting my footage for the show in the middle of the street, I heard in the distance loud football chants. I turned around to witness a sea of red coming towards me. I moved over onto the sidewalk to get out of their way.

As they got closer many fans recognized me. Most of the fans embraced me with hugs, high-fives and great complements which I am grateful for. On the flip side, there a few fans who paid more attention to the colour of my jacket! That's when things started becoming slightly worrying for myself. To be honest, I did become a little anxious for my safety. A few fans begun to shout out "off, off, off," pointing at the jacket. These taunts/chants escalated in volume until I decided to take it off. My decision resulted in a big cheer. I then made it to the stadium without getting any weird looks from the Canadian fans. One big thing I learnt from this experience was that Canadians are very patriotic and persuasive, ha ha ha!!!

Leading on from that, we had our big home match against NEW ENGLAND REV. It was a game I think we should have won. I am partly to blame as I missed probably the best chance of the game. I was so gutted. It haunted me for days!! But we have to move on from that and make amends in our next game vs. CHIVAS USA. I would like to add that your support was unbelievable that night as per usual; even when we went one nil down. We were playing against the top team in the league and we rose to the occasion to put on a good display of attacking football with speed and skill. Our manager JOHN CARVER made tactical adjustments for this game which gave us a much better platform to go out in search of a victory. He showed his tactical expertise. I wonder what he has in store for us this weekend.

Following on from the weekend, our coaching staff had arranged for us to travel to Collingwood for a day away in a different setting. We got the chance to spend some quality time together as a team, participating in various activities. It was great fun and hopefully gives us a little injection in our quest to get into the playoffs. We are hungry for this achievement!!!

Before I close this blog, I wanna give a warm welcome to our latest addition to the squad.......The PEST aka FISH, better known to the public as .......... wait for it...............drum roll please...............BANG......CARLOS RUIZ. Finally he has arrived to bolster our attacking options. I am personally looking forward to playing with him. I have heard so many good things about his talents.

I just signed an endorsement deal with worldwide brand. It's an honor for me because when I was growing up, my goal and desire was to be a top football player. That is still my goal, as I feel I can improve vastly. So I see signing endorsements as a bonus because it was not among my career goals. The way I look at endorsements is that they are a commercial form of recognition. I appreciate when viewers/brands show interest in how I apply my trade!!!

I appreciate the small things in this life and never lose track of where I come from. This keeps me humble, never mind what praise or exposure I get from the fans, media etc. For those who know me, this is a part of your common knowledge of me. Anyway 'til next week take care and enjoy our game versus CHIVAS USA on Saturday. Remember IT AIN'T ME IT'S MY SHOES!!!

P.S. I wanna send a SPECIAL shout out to the people who are participating in the RED PATCH BOYS 2nd ANNUAL SOCCER TOURNAMENT and have named their soccer team ROLLIN' WITH RICKETTS! This kind of recognition touches and moves me as a human. THANK YOU, I AM EXTREMELY GRATEFUL. Let me know how you get on (DO MY NAME PROUD). Also, thanks for all the ideas that have been sent to me for ROLLIN' WITH RICKETTS the visual. All your ideas have been written down for future use. ONE LOVE X
