School Visit Schedule

D.C. United players will visit individual classrooms to engage the students in a reading activity as well as announce the start of the 2007 United Reads Reading Challenge, supported by Verizon. The interaction allows the players to share their love of reading and emphasize the importance for each student to develop their reading skills. To assist the students in fulfilling the challenge, each student will receive three new books during the classroom visit.

This is the second year of the United Reads Reading Challenge, which encourages the students to complete a series of reading activities over a three-week period. Activities include reading ten minutes a day, drawing a picture about a story they read and reading an article about soccer from the newspaper, to name a few. At the conclusion of the three weeks, each school holds a wrap-up assembly where a few students from each classroom are recognized for their excellent participation. The assembly will conclude with each student receiving three more books, which they are encouraged to read during the summer months.
